Learn about Summer 2022 Pre-College opportunities at UMass Amherst. Our residential and online pre-college programs are designed to give you a preview of the UMass student experience, including college-level academics and being part of a learning community of high school students from all across the U.S. and the world. Our programs feature faculty-led courses, state-of-the-art facilities, and the #1 campus dining in the U.S., as ranked by the Princeton Review.
This course explores the links between technical operations, creative production design, and actual production in a multiple camera HD studio environment. Though loaded with technology, the television studio is, from the first instance through the last, a creative environment with tools aimed at production of meaningful content. Students will learn the ins and outs of the studio environment through various projects throughout the week.
Each day will present a different studio production show concept (ex. talk show, game show, interview). Students will spend the first half of the day analyzing/reviewing each concept and apply the concepts to a studio project. Through group efforts, students will develop the content of each program type, plan out the studio design, audio and camera arrangements, and execute each program on a rotating basis.
Production processes include, but aren't limited to; content development, operational standards, use of studio & control room equipment, on-air host/interview process, and audio mixing.
The goal is to have students participate in all aspects of the studio process. From "on-air" talent, to camera operation, to control room processes, all students will experience each capacity throughout this program. Students will have a better understanding of the studio processes at the conclusion of the program.
